Club América becomes first team to book ticket to playoffs

Club América defeated Atlético San Luis 1-0 over the weekend on matchday 13 with a goal from Roger Martínez in stoppage time. This was an important victory with four games left of the regular season because with the three points obtained on the road they have secured a playoff spot.

The team from the Mexico capital has only lost once in 13 games this campaign. They are in first place with 28 points and a record of 8W-4D-1L. They have a six point advantage over second-placed Club Atlas and their next match will be on Tuesday against Santos Laguna.

It will be a short week for Club América because four days later they will host Tigres UANL at the Azteca stadium. Then they will go on the road to face Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions League final on 28 October and this could be the opportunity for manager Santiago Solari to win his first title.

The Argentine can rest some key players for the upcoming games with their ticket to the playoffs secured. The Eagles will end the regular season by playing against Cruz Azul on 31 October and six days later they will host Monterrey.
