Marseille vs PSG: times, TV and how to watch online

One of the biggest games in the League 1 calendar at Stade Vélodrome on Sunday as two of the most renowned names in French football go head-to-head as Olympique de Marseille takes on PSG. Sunday game will be Lionel Messi's first experience of the French football's most prominent fixture - Le Classique.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner and winner of the Copa Libertadores most recently will take the field of the Orange Velodrome with his team-mates, hoping to mark the occasion with his first goal in Ligue 1 since signing for PSG. Messi has starred moderately in the national competition for his new club - he has made just three league appearances, starting just twice, for a total of 190 minutes. He played more effectively in the UEFA Champions League with more prolific performances, scoring three goals, including two in Tuesday's 3-2 victory against RB Leipzig at the Parc des Princes.

Lionel Messi is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Clásico in Spain with 26 goals for Barcelona against Real Madrid. With his striking move to Paris in August, the Argentinian will now get to taste the avid atmosphere that eternally awaits the Parisian club when they go to Marseille. In terms of the crowd's passion, there is arguably no other event like it in Europe. OM coach Jorge Sampaoli, Messi's former manager at the World Cup 2018 in Russia, already grasps all about the ambiance in Marseille, but this will also be his first drive at the Le Classique.

PSG control and rule

PSG's domination in the last ten years of the Le Classique is more enhanced with the summer addition of Lionel Messi. They won six and drew two of their previous eight visits to the Vélodrome, including a 2-0 victory last season. The earlier loss came in November 2011, in the year of the Qatari takeover, when OM won with 3-0 at Velodrome. Since then, PSG has lost just once in the 23 meetings with their bitter rivals in all competitions. That one loss came in September last year when a minimal number of spectators witnessed the 0-1 loss of the home team at Parc des Princes due to the pandemic.

PSG are toping the table, nine points ahead of RC Lens and ten clear of OM, and favoring situation in their hands. The Parisians had a longer time for recovery from their Champions League duty than Sampaoli's side, who drew 0-0 away to Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday.

"We can feel that there are more than just the three points at stake. It is a bit bigger than that for everyone," said PSG's Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera. "We know this is not a normal match for the supporters and the club."

Marseille back on track

Marseille, meanwhile, completed a spell of three league games without a win, pounding FC Lorient 4-1 in Round 10. They have a fully-fit team at the moment and will need to take out their best team in this fixture. The excellent form of Dimitry Payet, Arkadiusz Milik scoring for the first time this season after injury, and Mattéo Guendouzi scoring one goal in recent games, is a great motivation before the big match. The win against PSG and OGC Nice later during the week, in one of the rescheduled games, would leave them just four points short of the title favorites at the top of the table.

Possible line-ups

Marseille: Lopez; Saliba, Balerdi, Peres; Rongier, Kamara, Guendouzi; Ünder, Payet; Milik

PSG: Navas; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Diallo; Herrera, Verratti, Gueye; Messi, Mbappé, Neymar
