Eagles trade veteran QB Flacco back to Jets

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded quarterback Joe Flacco back to the New York Jets, after Jets signal caller Zach Wilson suffered a knee injury.

Update:
Eagles trade veteran QB Flacco back to Jets

The New York Jets have traded for the return of Philadelphia Eagles backup Joe Flacco, after rookie quarterback Zach Wilson suffered a knee injury during the Jets’ 54-13 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The Eagles in turn will get a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft that could be boosted to a fifth-round pick, depending on how much playing time Flacco gets.

Wilson out for 2-4 weeks

Wilson sprained his right knee in the second quarter after being hit by Patriots linebacker Matt Judon, and is likely to miss action for at least two weeks.

Fourth-year passer Mike White took the place of the rookie starter after he was injured, completing 20 of 32 passes for 202 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

It is not yet clear who will start for the Jets against their game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Other NFL stories:

Flacco headed back to New York

Flacco played for the Jets during the 2020 season where he acted as backup to quarterback Sam Darnold. He played in five games and started in four when Darnold was injured, racking up six touchdown passes against three interceptions. He completed 74 of 134 passes for 864 yards.

The Jets did not want a backup quarterback earlier this year, so Flacco signed a one-year $3.5 million contract with the Eagles as a free agent in the past offseason. He hasn’t had any playing time with Philadelphia.

The 36-year-old Flacco has played in the NFL for 14 years, and was the Super Bowl XLVII MVP in 2012 while playing for the Baltimore Ravens.

He has thrown for nearly 41,000 yards with 24 touchdowns and 144 interceptions in the course of his career.

The 1-5 New York Jets see action against the 5-2 Cincinnati Bengals at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. ET.
