LAFC must defeat the Colorado Rapids on the road on Sunday if they want to have a shot of qualifying for the 2021 MLS Cup playoffs. If they don’t obtain the three points, it could be the last game for Carlos Vela with LAFC because his contract expires in December.

Vela wants to stay at LAFC

The Mexican international has missed a total of 20 games in two seasons and he has not reached the level shown in 2019 when he won the golden boot and the MVP award. Last season he suffered a serious knee injury and this campaign he has been dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for 14 matches.

Carlos Vela arrived in Major League Soccer in 2018 and his contract with LAFC expires at the end of the current season. There has been no talks about a contract renewal just yet, but when asked about his future this is what the Mexican international said.

I have always said since I got here, it felt like home because of how the fans and the club have treated me. Every game at home I enjoy it because it is a party for everyone. We will see what happens, but I just want to thank everyone for my time here,” said Vela.

“I am happy here [at Los Angeles] but it is not just up to me, because both sides have to come to an agreement. If everyone is happy with the new contract then I will gladly continue, but if not then we will take our own way and I’ll wish them the best.”
