Mexico have beaten the USMNT just once in 49 years in World Cup qualifiers

On Friday Mexico will face the United States men’s national team at the TQL stadium for the first time in the 2022 CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

Mexico have beaten the USMNT just once in 49 years in World Cup qualifiers

Mexico will be out for revenge against the United States men’s national team after losing in back-to-back finals last summer. They hope that it will be third time lucky for them when they meet the USMNT at the TQL Stadium on 12 November for the first time in the CONCACAF 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Mexico struggles when playing in the United States

Historically, it has not been easy for Mexico against the USMNT during World Cup qualifying. ‘El Tri’ has only defeated the United States once in 49 years in the qualifiers.

That was back in 2016 when Mexico beat the United States 2-1 at the Mapfre Stadium on their road to the 2018 World Cup. It was an historic win for a Mexico side managed by Juan Carlos Osorio with Miguel Layún and Rafael Márquez scoring for the visiting side.

In the last 10 World Cup qualifying games Mexico and the United States each have four wins and two draws. The last time they play against each other was in the World Cup qualifiers of 2018 and they ended with a 1-1 draw at the Azteca.
