BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE

Blood Moon Eclipse 2021 on November 19: times and how to watch online and from the US

The longest partial eclipse in the last 580 years wil be visible on November 19, tanning our satellite a unique reddish color, thus its term "blood moon".

The longest partial eclipse this century, which will cause our moon to be tinged with a reddish copper color for a couple of hours, will take place on Friday morning. However, the eclipse will only be visible from certain places in the world, including North America, South America, Australia, and the Eastern part of Asia.

The partial eclipse is expected to be the longest one between now and the year 2100, so if you are planning on watching the eclipse live, note that at 3 hours, 28 minutes, and 23 seconds you will witness a once in a lifetime moment: a record-breaking longest partial eclipse. In New Zealand, this phenomenon has not been since since 1212.

When is the blood moon eclipse?

The so-called blood moon eclipse - because of the moon's color - will reach its full redpoint on Friday, November 19 at 4:02 a.m ET, a time at which American citizens will be able to take a brief peek and see what a red full moon looks like.

However, for those who want to see the complete eclipse and how our satellite gradually turns red, it is recommended to be outside from 2:18 a.m ET, when the clear skies will still show a white moon, through 4:02 a.m ET when the moon will be entirely red.

How to watch online?

There are several ways to live stream the eclipse, as multiple servers will be broadcasting the event live on their YouTube channels.

1. Timeanddate.com

The timeanddate.com website will be providing live coverage of the event on YouTube from 2 a.m. ET.

2. The Virtual Telescope Project

Starting on Youtube at 2 a.m. ET, the Virtual Telescope Project is another one to offer coverage of the lunar eclipse, with several experts from around the world commenting on the phenomenon to provide insight on the record-breaking eclipse.

3. Telescope retailer High Point Scientific

Telescope retailer High Point Scientific is another option for those who are thinking of live streaming the Blood moon on YouTube, starting at 2 a.m. ET.

4. Lowell Observatory

Starting at 2:15 a.m. on November 19, Lowell Observatory will have several academics discussing projections of the eclipse through a 14-inch PlaneWave telescope and a portable Vixen refractor telescope.
