PSG blame Galáctico-era Real Madrid for stoking inflation in the transfer market

The relationship between PSG and Real Madrid has cooled in recent months - especially as a consequence of the negotiations for Kylian Mbappé. From 2011 onwards, the Ligue 1 side began revolutionising world football with multi-million euro signings which has helped them to place themselves among the top teams in Europe. It's a policy which has been heavily criticised in the football world, but for Victoriano Melero, General Secretary at PSG, it all started with Real Madrid.

"The inflationary situation within football's ecosystem was not caused by PSG but by the Galactico-era Real Madrid in the 2000s. Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Monaco, through their shareholders, are not responsible for the actual situation with inflation," Victoriano Melero said during PSG's National Assembly.

PSG's General Secretary also criticised Financial Fair Play for provoking laissez-faire within football. "Investment needs to be freed up so that new clubs can emerge, and that is something which hasn't happened with Financial Fair Play. It's a mechanism which has allowed historic clubs to remain at the top. Do we really want a closed ecosystem?" In France, his words were taken as an attack on the proposed European Super League.
