Unfortunately for the Chargers, their main man just tested positive for covid-19

Chargers' Keen Allen tests positive for covid-19

On Monday the Los Angeles Chargers leading receiver Keenan Allen was placed on the reserve/covid-19 list. With the news, his availability for Sunday's game against the New York Giants is most definitely up in the air. Allen becomes the 11th player to be placed on the list on Monday by teams of the NFL. Allen was one of 11 players placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by teams on Monday.  It is understood that each of the players in question tested positive for the virus. Speaking on the development and the player's status, head coach Brandon Staley said that Allen "is day-to-day right now, and hopefully we'll have some good news on him in the next few days."

Keenan Allen this season

A Pro Bowl selection for the last four consecutive seasons, Allen leads the Chargers with 86 receptions and 929 receiving yards this season. Four his receptions have been touchdowns. Assuming Allen is vaccinated, he will be required to provide two negative tests 24 hours apart as well as be asymptomatic for a 48 hour period before being allowed to return to the team. On the other hand, if the star wide receiver is unvaccinated, he will face a minimum of 10 days worth of isolation before he can return.

The Chargers have a covid-19 problem

The Chargers are on the up at the moment having just improved to 7-5 with a 41-22 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Allen himself posted two touchdown receptions and threw a pass to quarterback Justin Herbert for a 2-point conversion. Not a bad shift. Los Angeles currently sits in second place in the AFC West and with are holding onto the AFC's second wild card spot.

Unfortunately for the Chargers, positive tests are actually a growing trend. Defensive tackle Linval Joseph is still out while he continues to face league protocols as well as defensive linemen Jerry Tillery, Christian Covington and linebacker Drue Tranquill who missed at least 10 days last month due to covid-19. There is also linebacker Joey Bosa who was sidelined for five days and was asked to provide a negative test before being allowed to play against the Steelers on November 21st. It is understood that he was unvaccinated and was known to have had 'close contact' with an individual who was positive for covid-19.
