Joe Biden is from Scranton, Pennsylvania- a state full of sports pride. Both Joe Biden and Jill Biden are full-fledged fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Philadelphia Eagles have made it to the Super Bowl 27 times, but have only won three of them. The Philadelphia Phillies have two World Series titles.

Sports have been central to Biden’s life and according to his son Francis, Biden sees sports as a unifying force in American culture and politics. Biden's son said, "He's certainly going to look to sports and sports figures to help bring us back into alignment as Americans.

While President Biden hoped to see sports as a unifying force during his term as president, former President Donald Trump made that difficult to achieve. During Trump's presidency, he argued with sports players on social media and came after certain owners for supporting Colin Kaepernick's peaceful social injustice protests.

President Joe Biden has never publicly said he is a soccer fan, although he has been photographed attending some soccer games. When the USWNT team won the World Cup in France in 2019, Biden posted on social media: “USWNT, congratulations on the big win and thank you for the jersey!”

He has also been an advocate for equal pay as can be seen below:

Biden is a sports star himself

Not only is Joe Biden a huge sports fan, but he was also quite an athlete in school. During high school, president Biden was a receiver and he went on to play football as a freshman on the University of Delaware's team.

In Biden’s memoir, he references how sports helped him overcome his speech impediment. He wrote, “Sports were as natural to me as speaking was unnatural. And sports turned out to be my ticket to acceptance — and more. I wasn’t easily intimidated in a game, so even when I stuttered, I was always the kid who said, ‘Give me the ball.”

Biden has noted many times that the first lady, Jill Biden, is also a huge Philadelphia sports fan. Joe Biden joked that while he was on the campaign trail, Jill Biden’s team had the opportunity to go to the World Series. She wouldn’t miss the chance to head home to watch the Philadelphia Phillies.
