It would seem that the Chargers having a growing covid-19 problem on their hands

Chargers' WR Mike Williams latest on covid-19 list

If things weren't already bad enough, the Los Angeles Chargers are set to do without both of their top receivers as they prepare for their meeting with the New York Giants on Sunday coming. Having seen Keenan Allen, the Chargers' leading receiver with 86 receptions and 929 yards placed on the list on Monday after testing positive, the team will now also have deal with the absence of wide receiver Mike William.

Williams is actually second on the team with 854 receiving yards and is tied for the team lead with an impressive seven receiving touchdowns. Officially placed on the team's reserve/covid-19 list on Wednesday, the star wide receiver joins not just Allen, but cornerback Chris Harris Jr. as well. Speaking on the situation Chargers head coach Brandon Staley disclosed that both players were placed on the list having had close contacts and are considered "day-to-day" ahead of Sunday's game.

What happens to the Chargers' players now?

Should Williams, Allen and Harris be vaccinated, they will be required to provide two negative tests 24 hours apart and in addition to being asymptomatic for a period of 48 hours before they can return. If unvaccinated, then they will have to isolate for a minimum of 10 days before being permitted to return to the team. Harris it must be said, is also an absence that will be felt. For the season so far he has posted two tackles and one interception.

Do the Chargers have other covid-19 cases?

The Chargers who currently have a 7-5 record sit in second place in the AFC West and are in possession of the AFC's second wild-card spot. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, however, their covid-19 worries don't end with the above mentioned trio. In fact it could be said that the Chargers are fighting against an increasingly difficult scenario. Recently, defensive tackle Linval Joseph was placed on the covid-19 list and there he still remains.

There is also defensive linemen Jerry Tillery and Christian Covington as well as linebacker Drue Tranquill who missed some 10 days in November due to covid-19 protocols. Then of course there is linebacker Joey Bosa was sidelined for five days and was required to provide negative tests before he returned for the November 21st game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
