Update:
The Chicago Bulls are now short 10 players as Aliz Johnson tests positive for covid-19, leaving the minimum eight they need to play against the Detroit Pistons.

Power forward Alize Johnson has tested positive for covid-19, becoming the tenth Chicago Bulls player to enter the NBA’s health and safety protocols since Dec.1.

Those already undergoing the protocol are Coby White, Javonte Green, Zach Lavine, DeMar DeRozan, Troy Brown Jr., Matt Thomas, Derrick Jones Jr., Ayo Dosunmu, and Stanley Johnson.

The bare minimum

With the inclusion of Alize Johnson, this leaves the team only eight eligible players on the roster for their home game against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.

Under league regulations, a team needs at least eight active players to be able to join a game. Chicago is still waiting for Coby White and Javonte Green to be cleared for action, as they will have complied with the ten-day isolation requirement and would possibly be qualified to play. They need to pass cardiac screening before they can be allowed to return to the court.

Last ones standing

Those remaining on the active roster of players are Nikola Vucevic, Marko Simonovic, Alfonzo McKinnie, Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Tony Bradley, Devon Dotson, and Tyler Cook. Smonovic, Cook, and Dotson have been in the G League for a large part of the season.

The Bulls have the option of contracting more players under the hardship waiver if necessary. Under this rule, they will be permitted to go beyond the 15-man roster limit per team if four players or more are out of commission for more than two weeks due to illness or injury.

The Chicago Bulls are currently in third place in the NBA Eastern Conference with a 17-10 record.
