NYCFC will host a championship ceremony on Tuesday

New York City Football Club defeated the Portland Timbers over the weekend to win the 2021 MLS Cup, their first in franchise history. There have been ongoing celebrations throughout the city for NYCFC winning the championship and they will continue on Tuesday. This is the ‘Big Apple’s’ first pro sports title since 2012 - even more reason to continue celebrating.

Championship Ceremony held at City Hall

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Monday that the championship ceremony will be held on 14 December at City Hall with fans present to celebrate this great accomplishment for New York City. De Blasio said that the ceremony will start at 12:00 noon (ET) and the tickets are free for those who want to attend. Tickets are available online and they will be given on a first come first serve basis.

That team just showed so much determination, so much fight, and we are going to celebrate this amazing team, we’re going to celebrate all they mean to New York City,” de Blasio said. “These champions really epitomized the best of New York City.”

It’s such a special feeling for me being a local New Yorker, just to bring a trophy back to the city. It’s such an amazing feeling. I was a fan of this team before I played on this team,” said NYCFC defender James Sands. “Together, we just represent all that’s great about New York, the hard work, the determination. It’s such a special feeling.”
