USMNT registers record 17 wins in a calendar year

The United States men’s national team played its last match of the year against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park. Since it was outside of a FIFA international fixture date, the manager Gregg Berhalter only used Major League Soccer players that have been in camp in Los Angeles all week.

New record for the USMNT

Cole Bassett scored a late goal to give the United States a 1-0 win against the European side. With this result the USMNT reached a total of 17 wins in a calendar year for the first time in their history. The team managed by Berhalter finished the year with a record of W17-D2-L3 and won the CONCACAF Nations League and Gold Cup over the past 12 months.

The USMNT also sits in second place at the midway point of World Cup qualifying and returns during winter to face El Salvador on 27 January in Columbus, Ohio. Three days later they will go on the road to face Canada on 30 January and then they will return home to face Honduras in St. Paul, Minnesota on 2 February.

Berhalter has also now debuted a total of 53 players since taking over the managerial job in 2018 and is in third place in the history of US Soccer. In second place is Bob Bradley, who debuted 60 players, and in first place is Bruce Arena, who debuted 89.
