Each year there are dedicated ‘federal holiday’ days, which see most non-essential federal government offices closed and workers given a day of rest.

This will depend on what sector you work in with workers in the hospitality industry, for instance, unlikely to be given the day off. Generally, institutions like schools, banks, businesses and the US stock market will be closed for federal holidays.
