Joe Burrow made history on Saturday, but not exactly the kind of history you want to make as an NFL quarterback. He was sacked a total of nine times in the AFC Divisional Round game against the Titans. In 1970, Warren Moon set the record for most quarterback sacks at nine, and Burrow has now tied that record.

NFL Sacking Records

Those nine sacks allowed by the Bengals also tie an NFL playoff record with the Chiefs (1966), Bears (1984), Jets (1986), and Houston Oilers (1993). The nine sacks made by the Titans ties the playoff record with the Bills (1966), 49ers (1984), Browns (1986), and Chiefs (1993).

There was only one other quarterback to be sacked more than eight times and then go on to win a playoff game, and that was Donovan McNabb back in 2003 during the Divisional Playoff game.

Even still, the Bengals went on to win their first road playoff game in the team’s history, advancing them to their first AFC Championship game since 1988. They beat the Titans 19-16 and Joe Burrow went for 28 of 37 and 348 yards with one interception…and of course…the nine sacks.
