The General Assembly of SIGA, the Sport Integrity Global Alliance, unanimously ratified the re-election of Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros as Global CEO. His second term will run from 2022 to 2026.

SIGA is the world's largest coalition fighting against corruption and for good governance in sport. It is, according to SIGA, an "independent and neutral organisation whose mission is to bring about meaningful reforms and enhance the integrity of all sports through a set of universal standards operated by an independent and neutral body." This newspaper is a proud partner of SIGA and fully supports its fight for integrity in Sport.

Commenting on the General Assembly’s ratification of his re-election as SIGA’s Global CEO, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros said: "I am honoured to accept the leadership and responsibility which the SIGA General Assembly have entrusted me with. I am grateful to each and every member for their relentless support. I will seek, as I have always sought, to justify this extraordinary democratic expression of confidence by devoting all my energy to build a stronger SIGA and deliver our global reform agenda. This is what the SIGA members deserve, sport needs and my nature impels me to.”

SIGA General Assembly addresses a variety of issues

During the meeting held in Geneva on Monday, the General Assembly also approved the Alliance’s 2021 financial statement, independent auditors’ report, as well as the 2022 budget and global strategy to be implemented during the next four years.

The General Assembly also informed SIGA members of progress in a number of areas, including but not limited to, per a SIGA press release: "The development of SIGA’s Universal Standards on Youth Development & Protection in Sport, the implementation of SIRVS, the 2022 priorities to be pursued by SIGA AMERICA and SIGA EUROPE & Others) and several thought leadership projects and events that will be carried out over the course of the current year."

These projects include SIGA WoW, Women on Wednesdays, a show that every month brings together an array of incredible women speakers to discuss, debate and help pave the way for other women, showcasing the importance of women empowerment in sport.
