49ers QB Garoppolo to undergo shoulder surgery

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo may have surgery done on his shoulder soon, which is likely to keep him out of the field until the summer.

Update:
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo may have surgery done on his shoulder soon, keeping him out of the field until the summer.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s probable trade this month will have to take a backseat to surgery on his throwing shoulder that he is expected to undergo soon. The operation is likely to sideline the 30-year-old for approximately four months.

Garoppolo has also been dealing with a torn ligament in his right thumb, but for the moment he is able to avoid going through an operation to resolve it.

Other NFL stories:

Garoppolo set for offseason trade

Despite his upcoming procedure, he is reportedly generating some buzz in the trade market and is still a candidate for acquisition by another team.

Garoppolo is believed to have hurt his shoulder during San Francisco’s wild-card victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He is projected to be ready for action in July and be well enough to participate in workouts in the offseason with a new team.

The two-time Super Bowl winner has been with the 49ers for five seasons, and he has said he is slated to part ways with them in the offseason

Garoppolo want to join a hungry team

Talk of his possible trade followed San Francisco’s defeat to eventual Super Bowl champions the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game. It is believed that Trey Lance, the 49ers’ No.3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, will take over his position.

Garoppolo has delivered decent numbers for the 49ers, notching a 66-38 touchdown to interception ratio for the team, but whether he can carry a team is a different question. The quarterback for his part has said that he wants to join a team that wants to win.

Jimmy G is on the last year of his five-year $137 million contract with San Francisco. The team owes him $24 million before he enters free agency.
