The NBA has named the Chicago Bulls guard/forward DeMar DeRozan and Dallas Mavericks forward/guard Luka Doncic the NBA Players of the Month for the month of February. DeRozan, in particular, is shaping up the shorthanded Bulls while he makes history for the Chicago team.

DeMar DeRozan makes history

DeRozan, Chicago’s veteran All-Star guard, had an impressive February run, in addition to an outstanding 2021-2022 season. The 32-year-old posted 30 or more points in 10 consecutive games, the longest streak of his career. That’s one point shy of Michael Jordan’s record in Chicago.

And between Feb. 6 and 24, the All-Star guard scored more than 35 points in eight straight games, breaking a record last seen by Wilt Chamberlain almost 60 years ago.

DeRozan has been leading the Bulls to their 8-5 record, averaging 34.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists; just in February alone, the Californian posted 55.3/40/87.7 shooting splits in 13 games. That makes him third in the NBA in February.

The talented guard logged nine rebounds and seven assists in the 119-108 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Feb. 6, with a season-high 45 points. The Bulls are currently sitting 2nd seed in the East standings (39-23).

Western Conference ‘Player of the Month’: Luka Doncic

The Dallas Mavericks’ All-Star was also named the Player of the Month of February for the Western conference as he helped Dallas to the 5th seed in the West standings (37-25).

The Slovenian averaged 34.7 ppg, ranking second, as well as 10.3 rpg and 8.8 apg in February, to have his greatest month of the 2021-22 season.

Dallas’ standout playmaker scored 30 or more points in seven of the Bulls’ 10 games in February. He scored 51 points in the 112-105 win against the LA Clippers on Feb. 10, a career-best. Only days later, Doncic helped the Mavericks to a 99-97 win over the Clippers as he finished with 45 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists.
