Marcus Maye signs with New Orleans Saints

After a troubled time in New York, the former second round pick and franchise player has been traded to the New Orleans Saints on a three year deal

The New Orleans Saints wasted no time replacing Marcus Williams. As soon as he reached an agreement with the Baltimore Ravens, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that former New York Jets safety Marcus Maye is going to sign with New Orleans on a three-year, $28.5 million deal, including $15 million in guarantees.

Maye was a second-round pick in 2017 and the split from the Jets is acrimonious on both sides. Only starting six games for the Jets last season after suffering a torn Achilles in early November, Maye finishes his time in New York with 60 starts and six interceptions. He was voted team MVP in 2020.

Marcus Maye looks to be a perfect fit for Dennis Allen’s defense in New Orleans and if the rumors of a Tyrann Mathieu homecoming could be realized, the Saints could have the strongest defensive backfield in the league.

Through good years and lean, the Saints have traditionally leant upon their defense. Dennis Allen served as the Defensive Coordinator under Sean Payton and is certainly partial to that way of thinking. Already one of the stingiest defenses in the league, the Saints are looking to plug gaps and find better fits where necessary.
