Where is LeBron James on the all-time scoring list?
LeBron James has just passed Karl Malone on the all-time scoring list to get the number two spot, and is now within striking distance of being number one.
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has just passed Hall of Famer Karl Malone on the all-time scoring list to clinch the number two spot, and now only needs to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to sit at the top.
LeBron cruises past Malone
James started their game against the Washington Wizards at Capitol One Arena needing only 19 points to match Malone’s points tally of 36,928. He made short work of the deficit, passing The Mailman’s record in the second quarter. When he dropped in a layup to pass Malone’s total, the Washington fans recognized the feat and gave him a standing ovation.
James scored 38 points in the Lakers’ 127-119 loss to Washington, bringing up his total to 36,947 career points.
The 37-year-old was initially unsure of playing for the game against the Wizards after seeing action for 45 minutes in an overtime victory against the Toronto Raptors. But shortly before the game began, the Lakers announced he would start for the team.

Nipping at the heels of Abdul-Jabbar
He is now less than 1,500 points from overtaking Abdul-Jabbar and becoming the all-time leading scorer of the NBA. Abdul-Jabbar’s record, which he set in 1989, stands at 38,387.
As long as James stays injury-free, he is expected to be able to reach this record, as he has had a points haul of more than 1,500 points in all but one of the 19 seasons he has played for the league.
The only other players who have passed the 30,000 mark in their NBA careers are Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, and Dirk Nowitzki.
