It seems the Lakers can't catch a break where injuries are concerned, as their star player heads back home in the hope of recovering from a sprained ankle.

LeBron James leaves Lakers early for rehab

According to reports on Wednesday, Lakers' star LeBron James left the team's road trip prematurely to return to Los Angeles, where he intends to further the rehabilitation of his ankle. James of course had previously been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Utah Jazz following a severe sprain in his left ankle, which he suffered on Sunday gone. Indeed, the 4-time league and finals MVP was also ruled out of Tuesday's game, which ended in a blow out 128-110 loss on the road against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Lakers injury problems continue

James' injury setback is unfortunately not the only headache that the Lakers have at the moment. Center, Anthony Davis still remains a doubt ahead of Thursday's game. The big man has not played since February 16th, when he suffered a right mid-foot sprain. Neither situation comes at a good time for the Lakers who currently sit on a record of 31-44 and are tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the final play-in spot in the Western Conference. That there are just seven games left in the season, doesn't help either.

To add an unfortunate layer of context to the situation, Tuesday's loss to Dallas was the 32nd variation of Los Angeles' starting lineup for the season so far. The Mavericks faced off against the odd combination of Austin Reaves, Stanley Johnson, Dwight Howard, Malik Monk and Russell Westbrook in the the starting lineup.
