The No. 1-seeded Kansas Jayhawks are on their way to the NCAA championship after getting their revenge on the Villanova Wildcats in the Final Four. Kansas prevailed 81-65 in a rematch of their 2018 semifinal game, which eventual champion Villanova won.

This is coach Bill Self’s third time to make it to the NCAA tournament championship with Kansas, and he led the team to their most recent title.

The Jayhawks are looking strong if the performances of star players David McCormack and Ochai Agbaji in the semifinal round serve as a preview of how things will turn out on Monday.

The inventor of basketball

The University of Kansas had their debut season in 1898, and the Jayhawks’ first coach was actually the inventor of the game of basketball, James Naismith, who also created the team.

Since then, the school has enjoyed a great measure of success, and is currently considered as having one of the most highly regarded men’s basketball programs in the United States.

The University of Kansas is home to many NBA players, including Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors, and basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain.

Kansas holds the record for the longest streak of consecutive tournament appearances in NCAA history.

The Jayhawks are tied with Villanova for sixth-highest number of championships at three each.

The Kansas Jayhawks will be looking to clinch their fourth NCAA trophy when they face the North Carolina Tar Heels on Monday, April 4 at Caesars Superdome, New Orleans. Tip-off is at 9:20 p.m. ET / 6:20 p.m. PT.
