Mexican striker Luca Martínez Dupuy tore his ACL
The striker from Argentina side Rosario Central suffered a knee injury during practice on Monday morning and he will be out for at least six months.
The Mexican national team lacked goals during the World Cup qualifiers in CONCACAF and Raúl Jiménez wasn’t able to find the back of the net. The Wolverhampton striker only scored three goals in nine appearances and Mexico’s head coach, Gerardo Martino, is in search of a striker with the World Cup set to start in November.
Luca Martínez Dupuy was being watched
The striker from Rosario Central confirmed his commitment to play with Mexico at the international stage and he declined the option to play for Argentina. Luca Martínez Dupuy was waiting for a call up in the upcoming friendlies in preparation for the World Cup, but he will have to keep waiting.
On Monday it was confirmed that Dupuy tore his ACL during practice with Rosario Central and he will need surgery. This means that the Mexican striker will be out for at least six months and this will rule him out for any possible call up with El Tri.
The 20-year-old has been linked to several teams in Major League Soccer and the Serie A. Atlanta United was in line to sign him prior to the start of the 2022 MLS regular season, but negotiations with Rosario Central fell through. Dupuy has scored one goal in six appearances in the start of Argentina's top flight.
