60 years later, ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ is still a huge hit with Xmas movie fans: Where to stream the classic
There are a number of films that are on families’ “must-watch” lists, but one that most likely appears on all of them is ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’.
Christmas is fast approaching and one of the annual activities that young and old alike love to do is curl up on the sofa to watch holiday movies. There are a number of films that revolve around Christmas from the hilarious to the romantic and those that warm your heart.
Every family has their own “must-watch” list, but one that is most likely on them all is ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’. The film was released 60 years ago this month on 9 December.
And despite everyone, from the creators to the TV execs, thinking it was going to flop, it has become a beloved holiday classic. The film was a mainstay on network TV every December thereafter until 2019.
Starting in 1965 on CBS, which produce the movie based on the incredibly popular ‘Peanuts’ comic strip created by Charles Schulz. Then in 2001 it moved over to ABC, which purchased the broadcast rights to all the ‘Peanuts’ holiday specials.
But in 2020, Apple TV gained exclusive streaming rights to the ‘Peanuts’ library of material. The platform announced this year that it will remain so until 2030.
You may have to pay to watch the beloved classic ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’
If you aren’t a subscriber to Apple TV, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to pay. The platform has a free viewing window each year for a couple of days for all of the ‘Peanuts’ holiday classic specials.
Unfortunately, this year those days were the 13th and 14th of December in 2025 for ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’, which have now passed.
However, if you haven’t already used up a 7-day free trial period, you could do that to watch ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ without technically having to pay. Just remember to cancel the subscription before the free period ends.
