‘Insidious’ is back for another haunting with ‘Insidious: The Red Door’, and the highly-anticipated horror movie also marks ‘Insidious’ star Patrick Wilson’s directorial debut.

The fifth movie in the horror franchise will unleash new terrors on the Lambert family, as they come to terms with the dark secrets that continue to haunt their family.

Watch the trailer

The trailer begins with a 10-year flashback, to the time the Lambert family first became victim to evil spirits.

Now in ‘Insidious: The Red Door’ Dalton (played by Ty Simpkins) is heading off to college, with his dad Josh (played by Wilson) taking him to school.

At the school, Dalton begins taking art classes, and for an art project is asked to draw “something that defines you”. He ends up reminiscing about his time in a coma, pointing to the events of 2010s ‘Insidious’ when 10-year-old Dalton falls into a coma, becoming a victim of possession.

Now as a young adult, Dalton begins seeing secrets of the truth behind his coma in his art, and he and his father must unlock memories of their past that they’ve forcefully forgotten.

“Our family has been keeping secrets. They suppressed our memories,” Josh tells Dalton in the trailer. “But I can still feel something following us.”

Rose Byrne, who plays Josh’s wife and Dalton’s mom, Renai, previously told Collider that “it felt like a natural progression that [Wilson] would want to continue the story,” referring to his role in the movie as both lead star and director.

Official synopsis

The movie’s official synopsis has been released by Sony Pictures Releasing.

“However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.
