Actor Kenneth Mitchell dies at 49: What was the cause of death?

The family of Kenneth Mitchell announced “with heavy hearts” that that the Canadian-born actor has passed away on Saturday after battling ALS for 5 years.

The world of cinema is in mourning. The famous actor Kenneth Mitchell has died at the age of 49 due to the disease he had suffered from for five years, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as his own family has confirmed.

They were the ones who, through a statement issued on social networks. “With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend to many,” read the obituary posted by the family. “Ken was widely known as an actor in many films and television shows. He’s portrayed an Olympic hopeful, an apocalypse survivor, an astronaut, a superhero’s dad, and four unique Star Trekkers.”

The statement went on to talk about Mitchell’s dedication to his family: “Ken was diligent and hardworking in everything he did, but as a father these traits found their fullest expression. He was extremely dedicated to being a positive and playful force in the lives of his children. Regardless of his later disabilities, Ken discovered a higher calling to be more fully himself for his kids. Ken will be forever proud of who his children have become.”

But, they also address the disease he faced: “For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of terrible challenges from ALS. And in truest Ken fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to live a full and joyous life in each moment.”

A long career in film and television

The Canadian actor leaves behind a great legacy in the world of the seventh art. He has participated in numerous film and television projects. On the big screen he has participated in productions such as ‘Miracle’ and ‘Captain Marvel’.

He’s perhaps best known for his role as Eric Green on the show ‘Jericho’, where he participated in a total of 27 episodes between 2006 and 2008. Another TV series that ganered him fame was ‘The Astronaut Wive’s Club’, in which he played Deke Slayton.

Additionally, Kenneth Mitchell was a staple on other television productions such as ‘Leap Years’, ‘Odyssey 5′, ‘Ghost Whisperer’, ‘Switched at Birth’, ‘Frequency’, ‘Nancy Drew’ and ‘Star Trek: Discovery’.
