Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ will resume with no weapons on set
Alec Balwin’s movie ‘Rust’ will resume shooting this spring, but without working weapons or real ammunition on set.
Alec Baldwin’s film, ‘Rust’, will proceed upon the stipulation that there be no working weapons or ammunition on set moving forward.
The movie is set to resume filming this spring amid much controversy, as it has been just over a year since the death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer on set.
On with the show
Rust Movie Productions released a statement on Tuesday announcing that the show will go on, but there will be some new rules.
“[The production] will continue to utilize union crew members and will bar any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition. Live ammunition is — and always was — prohibited on set,” the statement read.
Will Alec Baldwin still star in ‘Rust’?
Alec Baldwin will continue his lead role in the movie, and at least four other original crew members are scheduled to return to the project. Allan Graf, stunt coordinator, Terese Davis, costume designer, Stacy Lockhart, head of makeup, and Anna Williams, head of the hair department have all been confirmed as returning to set.
The late Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, is now an executive producer on the film, along with Academy Award nominee Grant Hill.
Bianca Cline, with some big shoes to fill replacing Halyna Hutchins, will step into the role of cinematographer.
Cline intends to donate her entire salary to charity.
Who is involved in ‘Rust’ production
Director Joel Souza has agreed to return to complete the film. Souza was one of the people injured in the shooting on set in October, an incident for which Alec Baldwin and the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, are charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
The director commented on the prospect of returning to the set of ‘Rust’.
“Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team joining former cast and crew are committed to completing what Halyna and I started,” Souza said. “My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud.”
“It is a privilege to see this through on her behalf.”
