Alyssa Milano explains why she had breast implants removed: These are other celebrities who have spoken out
The ‘Who’s the Boss’ star is now the boss of her own body again after having her breast implants removed. “Today, I’m my authentic self. Today, I’m free.”

There is a lot of pressure on people to have a certain “feminine” physical appearance, and perhaps none more so than women in the public limelight. However, going under the knife to get plastic surgery such as breast augmentation can be a mixed bag of results.
One which, with hindsight, some celebrities regret like Alyssa Milano. The 52-year-old actress recently shared on her Instagram account that she released “those false narratives, the parts of me that were never actually parts of me,” after having her breast implants removed.
Why did Alyssa Milano have her breast implants removed?
The ‘Charmed’ star explained in her social media post that she was “letting go of the body that was sexualized, that was abused, that I believed was necessary for me to be attractive; to be loved; to be successful; to be happy,” in explaining why she underwent explant surgery. “And in doing so, I hope I am releasing my daughter Bella from ever feeling those same unhealthy demands,” she added.
“Today I am loved, I am feminine, I am attractive, and I am successful. None of that is because of my implants,” she added. “I will still be all of those things when I wake up and they are gone.”
“There is so much and joy in that knowledge and freedom in letting go of what was never me in the first place,” she continued. “Today, I’m my authentic self. Today, I’m free.”
While removing her breast implants was what she felt was right for her, she wasn’t trying t make a generalized statement for all women that have undergone breast augmentation.
“I want to be clear that many women will find freedom and beauty in choosing their implants,” said Milano. “What is a false narrative for me may be the exact right thing for them, and I am so happy that we can all find our femininity and peace on our own terms.”
Alyssa Milano isn’t the only person to regret breast implants
Almost 300,000 women in the US alone had a breast augmentation done in 2022, according to data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. While some celebrities have found getting breast implants have helped them with their body image like Meghan Trainor, a number of celebrities have expressed regret about having breast work done.
Some have described it as a rash decision when they were young, others to improve their feelings about their bodies in the wake of having had children according to an article in People Magazine.
After having the procedure some instantly realized they had made a mistake like Gisele Bündchen and Ayesha Curry. The latter had hers removed and like Milano remained an advocate for women to make their own choices for their bodies.
Many others though have had theirs removed because of medical issues that they experienced like Clare Crawley, Danica Patrick, Ashley Tisdale, and SZA. Some women who have had breast augmentation have reported a range of symptoms believed to be an adverse reaction of the body’s immune response system to the implant materials.
