Andrew Garfield and his sex scene with Florence Pugh: “We went further than we were meant to”
Things started got slightly out of hand in a steamy scene between Garfield and Pugh for the film ‘We Live in Time’.
‘We Live in Time’ was released in selected theatres yesterday, Friday, and has a nationwide release next week. The romantic drama directed by John Crowley, stars Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield in the lead roles.
The plot revolves around a couple who meet accidentally, fall in love and form a family, only to be faced with a truth that threatens to jeopardize their relationship.
Intimate ‘We Live in Time’ scene got out of hand
In an interview, Garfield shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote about filming their first sex scene together. The actor, who took the opportunity to praise the often-criticized role of intimacy coordinators, admitted that nerves got the better of both him and Pugh.
“It’s pretty funny, and I don’t think she’d mind me sharing this. We were doing the first take of this very intimate, passionate scene, and it’s a closed set which means it’s only me, Florence, and the camera operator who’s a lovely man called Stuart,” he said. “And he’s very polite, sweet, and gentle. The director’s in the next room.”
Garfield continued: “The scene becomes passionate, as we choreographed it, and we got into it, and we went a little bit further than we were meant to because we didn’t hear ‘cut,’ and it felt safe. So we just carried on.”
And with the two actors in the moment, neither of them heard the director shouting “cut!”
Garfield explained: “At a certain point, both of us were telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a longer take.’ I looked up, and Stuart had the camera by his side, turned into the wall, trying to avert his eyes.”
Garfield concluded the story humorously, saying, “The poor guy was just waiting for us to finish moaning!”
