Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to acting, but for what film?

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been on a four year hiatus from movie acting since he appeared in 2019′s ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’. Now, the 75-year-old actor and filmmaker will make a return to the big screen with the upcoming action film ‘Breakout’.

Since then, Schwarzenegger has only appeared in smaller roles in video games and television series like ‘Predator: Hunting Grounds’ and ‘Stan Lee’s Superhero Kindergarten’.

What we know about ‘Breakout’ so far

The story will follow Terry Reynolds (Schwarzenegger) on a mission to save his stepson, who was wrongfully imprisoned for 25 years, in a foreign country.

Scott Waugh is set to direct the film. Waugh has previously directed the 2014 film ‘Need For Speed’ and the upcoming ‘Expendables 4′.

Richard and Nicole D’Ovidio will be writing the script. Both have been credited for writing the 2013 thriller film ‘The Call’ starring Halle Berry.

Richard has also written for the Apple TV series ‘The Last Frontier’

No other cast members besides Schwarzenegger have been announced. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year in eastern Europe.

Producers speak about the project

Producer Sebastian Raybaud expressed his excitement at being part of the project with Schwarzenegger.

“We are proud to be on board to make Scott’s vision come alive with the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead,” he told Deadline. “This is the perfect fit for Anton’s slate to continue delivering high-quality entertainment with big scale to the global market.”

Producer Jeff Elliot shared Raybaud’s sentiment.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Scott, fresh off the much-anticipated ‘Expendables 4′, which is going to be huge,” he said. “Pair that with Arnold, arguably the greatest action star in the history of film, and this is going to be a very fun ride for audiences all over the world.”
