Bachelorette star Jenn Tran felt ex-fiancé Devin Strader ghosted her
The 26-year-old reality TV star has slammed her ex for disrespectfully blanking her once their romance faded.
Nothing’s fair in love and war. As Jenn Tran, the first Vietnamese and Asian to star in The Bachelorette is finding out. The 26-year-old doctor’s assistant had planned a cosy future together with her fiancé Devin Strader after their romance in Season 21 of the Reality TV show only to end up being ceremoniously dumped by him, and then, the ultimate humiliation, blanked altogether.
Jenn was left distraught by her ex-fiancé's disrespectful’ behavior once their relationship started to sour. Jenn and Devin got engaged in Hawaii but their relationship took a turn for the worse and folded after filming for The Bachelorette.
When love breaks down in ‘The Bachelorette’
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine, Tran reflected back on the split. “As soon as we had left Hawaii, things were just different. It kind of just felt like he was pulling away all the promises that he had made to me - wanting to move somewhere together, and wanting to have this future planned out, and wanting to see each other all the time,” she explained.
Adding to the pain of the breakup, Strader then distanced himself from his former fiancée, ignoring text messages with phone calls between them becoming stagnated then eventually reaching a dead end.
“He called me, and he basically broke off the engagement. He said he didn’t love me anymore, that he didn’t feel the same way and felt like something had been off since the second thing he proposed. He regretted getting engaged,” Jenn continued. “I can sit here and try to understand why someone would change their mind after saying all those crazy, crazy proclamations of love, but to also then sit here and disrespect the entire relationship by doing things that you know are going to hurt me, and by doing things that are just disrespectful to me, is next level of crazy”.
Cruel to make Bachelorette pair sit through proposal scene
She explained that the show’s producers persuaded her to watch their proposal scene alongside Devin, even though it would be a distressing experience for both of them - some observers calling it outright cruelty. Tran said, “I knew that I was going to have to sit there and watch it with him” and that maybe it would make him realize why she was so hurt.
Yet she was the one who found it too much to bear, breaking down as the clip played. “I didn’t anticipate being as emotional as I was. I didn’t anticipate feeling the way that I had felt. It was an uncomfortable situation, but I wanted him to sit there and watch that. And honestly, it shows me he doesn’t give a crap based on the differences in our emotions watching that happen. He just had been so non-apologetic about the whole thing”.
Later in the episode, Devin told Jenn that he did have a great affection for her but his feelings gradually faded. “Obviously I failed you. And there’s nothing I can say other than that. But, everything I felt for you was real.”
Jenn has since moved on and has joined the cast for Season 33 of ballroom dance show, Dancing With the Stars, telling Good Morning America, “I think heartbreak is the best motivator for success. I’ve been waiting for a moment to get that off of my chest and start a clean slate and move on with my life”.
