Bad Bunny was just awarded IFPI’s 2022 Global Album Award for ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ on Friday, making him the first Latin artist to win a Global Chart Award since the organization began awarding artists in 2014.

The win marks another historic moment for the Puerto Rican artist. ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ was also the first Spanish-language album to be nominated for Album of the Year at this year’s Grammy Awards, and won Best Música Urbana Album.

A historic win for Bad Bunny

According to IFPI, Bad Bunny’s album spent 13 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, again becoming the first Latin artist to earn the spot, before topping IFPI’s Global Albums chart for 2022.

“We are incredibly excited to award Bad Bunny, the first Latin American artist to win an IFPI Global Award, with the Album of the Year Award,” said IFPI Chief Executive Frances Moore.

“His unique sound, encapsulated in his award-winning album Un Verano Sin Ti, has captured the world’s attention on a remarkable scale over the last 12 months.”

According to Forbes, the album has since earned 3.4 million album equivalents from sales and streams. The single ‘Titi Me Pregunto’ has reached 1.4 billion streams, while ‘Me Porto Bonito’ has garnered 1.5 billion on-demand streams.

Who else made it on the IFPI Global Albums Chart?

Following Bad Bunny on the Global Albums Chart is Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’. Swift was recently announced as IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of the Year, which recognized her success as an artist for her discography in both physical and digital formats.

In third place on the chart is Harry Style’s ‘Harry’s House’, with the single ‘As It Was’ awarded IFPI’s Global Single Award. The song is perhaps most well known as a TikTok audio heard throughout 2022.

BTS’s album ‘Proof’ follows suit. The Korean boy band won IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of the Year for 2021, following their 2020 win.
