Bad Bunny is sticking by his decision to throw a fan’s phone into a nearby body of water after she tried to record a video of them walking together.

The incident came to light when a crowd of people followed the musician across a bridge in the Dominican Republic.

Bad Bunny is seen walking with a group of friends, when a woman stands in front of the artist and holds a phone up to his face.

When she tries to take a selfie, he briefly smiles before throwing the fan’s phone towards a body of water.

The fan can be seen looking on in shock, while another person remarks in Spanish: “Wow, seriously?”. Someone in Bunny’s entourage responds with, “You have to respect his space.”

Soon after the incident, Bad Bunny explained that he tossed the fan’s phone because it showed a lack of respect.”

“The person who comes up to me to greet me, tell me something or just meet me will always receive my attention and respect,” he tweeted in Spanish. “Those who come to put a damn phone in my face, I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect and treat it as such.”

Bad Bunny backs his decision once again

In a new interview with Time, Bad Bunny has once again stood by his decision to throw the fan’s phone.

“I always say I will never say no to someone who comes up to me to say hi. If you’re coming up like you’re going to rob me, then yes, it’ll bother me,” said Bad Bunny. “Why do you want a picture with me? Because I’m the Statue of Liberty? I’m a human. Greet me.”

Online comments following the incident were divided, with some stating Bad Bunny had the right to set his boundaries.

Fellow musician Lido Pimienta stated she saw nothing wrong with how he handled the situation, adding that the fan was in the wrong by disturbing him while he was walking down the street.

However, others criticized the move, with some stating the singer should have considered his position and used his words before resorting to throwing the fan’s phone.
