‘Barbie’ movie soundtrack to feature a number of A-listers including Dua Lipa, Ice Spice, and more
Nicki Minaj, Lizzo, and Charli XCX are also set to appear on the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack.
Excitement for the upcoming ‘Barbie’ movie starring Margot Robbie as the famous doll is well underway: the buzz continues to build as a soundtrack for the movie, featuring a number of A-list stars, will also be released on the same day, July 21.
The track listing includes artists such as Tame Impala, Charli XCX, Lizzo, Fifty Fifty, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, Ice Spice, GAYLE, Ava Max, Karol G, Khalid, The Kid LAROI, and even Ken actor Ryan Gosling will be making an appearance.
Dua Lipa’s single for the soundtrack ‘Dance the Night’, a disco-inspired pop song, will also be released on Friday, May 26 at midnight BST.
Lipa plays the mermaid Barbie in the movie.
A Barbie-themed announcement
The ‘Barbie’ soundtrack reveal was shared on social media, featuring Margot Robbie in character as Barbie, wearing an oversized pair of pink sunglasses, and her hair up in a colourful headscarf.
She is pictured reading the latest issue of “Barbie News”, the cover of which features the names of all the guests to be included in the soundtrack.
Which artists will have a song in the Barbie movie?
The full list of artists revealed so far is: Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Aqua, Charli XCX, Karol G, Sam Smith, Tame Impala, Ryan Gosling, Dominic Fike, Haim, Billie Eilish, The Kid Laroi, Khalid, PinkPantheress, Gayle, Ava Max, Fifty Fifty, Kaliii, and Aldo Ranks.
The announcement also hinted that even more “Barbies” and “Kens” will be announced up until the soundtrack’s release on July 21, 2023, the same date as the movie.
The soundtrack will be executive produced by Mark Ronson.
Are Aqua are on the soundtrack?
Fans were delighted to learn that Aqua, the Danish pop band who released the hit song ‘Barbie Girl’ in 1997, are included on the soundtrack listings as performers and co-writers on Nicki Minaj’s song, Barbie World, but they are merely sampled and do not feature. The song was released on June 27.
But Ava Max, who released a song in 2017 titled ‘Not Your Barbie Girl’, which includes a sample of the Aqua song, is featured on the album.
Pre-orders for the soundtrack are already available
A number of limited edition variations of vinyl colours and cassette tapes are available for pre-order on barbiethealbum.com, and will be released on the same day as the film.
This includes a limited edition blue embossed vinyl which comes with a 12x24 poster of Margot Robbie as Barbie, a hot pink vinyl, a hot pink cassette, a “Cotton Candy” vinyl, and transparent pink and blue cassette tapes.
‘Barbie’, directed by Greta Gerwig, will be released in theatres on July 21, 2023.
