They ended up going back and rewriting the show’s third season during this time, which still had yet to start production. In an interview with Variety last week, Hader told the outlet that “a very clear ending presented itself” during this writing time.

Now, almost 3 years later on April 16, the final season of the series will premiere. Today the fourth and final season’s teaser trailer was released.

“The arresting final act”

The new teaser shows Barry (Hader) now in prison thanks to his former acting teacher Gene Cousineau, played by Henry Winkler. HBO announced its final season by flashing the words “The Arresting Final Act” between quick clips of the new season.

For the last three seasons, the story has followed Barry Berkman, an Ohian hitman who comes to Lose Angeles for employment but ends up seeking redemption after taking an acting class and finding community in fellow classmates.

Filming ongoing

According to Variety, the final episode of the series is still in the process of being filmed. Hader describes this in his interview with the outlet.

“Well, it’s ongoing — we’re doing reshoots! It isn’t a bad thing. You get into the edit bay, and you start seeing things. And HBO is nice enough to say yes when I say, Can I please go out and grab this?” Hader explained.

He goes on, “You can write something, and it feels so clear to you. And then you shoot it, and it feels so clear. And then you edit it together, and it feels so muddy. A lot of times when we go back and reshoot stuff, it’s for clarity.”

Season four of ‘Barry’ will run for eight episodes before concluding on May 28, 2023.
