They were attacked... by horses”. A new disturbing series with an Irish twist is coming to Netflix.

Set in the fictional town of Bodkin on the west coast of Ireland, Netflix’s new comedy-thriller stars Siobhán Cullen as Dove, an investigative journalist from Dublin who gets involved with Gilbert Power (played by Will Forte), an American podcaster looking to discover his Irish roots and his young assistant Emmy (played by Robyn Cara).

Three strangers vanish in Bodkin on Irish Night of the Dead

Through old newspaper reports, the trio find out about the mysterious disappearance of three strangers during the Gaelic festival Samhain (Night of the Dead) 21 years previously and begin to investigate deeper. They hope to unearth enough content and find out more about those unexplained events to produce a true-crime podcast (”You’re making a podcast? In Bodkin?” one local asks them in surprise. “And people will listen to it?”).

The deeper they delve, and the more they uncover, a dark, sinister narrative begins to slowly evolve. Their persistent questions and probing doesn’t go well will everyone in Bodkin’s tight-knit community, who are afraid that skeletons will be let out of the closet. “Questions are what get people into trouble,” one local warns. “This is a quiet town with good people,” another spits, “Let the past go”.

It’s a gripping, seven-episode series set in a stunning backdrop - lush green, rolling hills, lakes and forests. Each episode was filmed entirely on site at various locations in Ireland, among them, West Cork, Wicklow and Dublin.

As Bodkin’s storyline unravels, and hidden secrets come to light, the three characters discover things about each other and themselves. The series, which gets darker and weirder with each episode, sets out to challenge perceptions about truth and reveals the tales we subconsciously tell ourselves to justify our thoughts and beliefs.

Bodkin will make its Netflix debut on Thursday 9 May, with all seven episodes being released simultaneously so subscribers can watch the whole lot in one sitting if they fancy. Netflix streaming packages start at around $6.99 a month for content with ads or $23 a month for superior video quality without ads.
