Bonnie Raitt’s ‘Just Like That’ was crowned Song of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards, the singer’s third award of the night.

The longtime singer was nominated alongside Taylor Swift’s All Too Well (10 Minute Version), Beyoncé's ‘Break My Soul,’ Gayle’s ‘abcdefu,’ Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time,’ Harry Styles’ “As It Was,’ Adele’s ‘Easy on Me,’ DJ Khaled’s ‘God Did,’ and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘The Heart Part 5.’

The singer appeared shocked to hear her name announced. Upon accepting the award from First Lady Jill Biden, Raitt gave a short speech.

“I was so inspired for this song by the incredible story of the love and the grace and the generosity of someone that donates their beloved’s organs to help another person live,” she said.

“This story was so simple and so beautiful for these times and people have been responding to this song partly because of how much I love and we all love John Prine, and that was the inspiration for the music of this song, telling a story from the inside,”

After thanking the Recording Academy for their support she continued: “I don’t write a lot of songs but I’m so proud that you appreciate this one.”

The singer had been nominated for Song of the Year, Best American Roots Song, Best Americana Performance, and Best Americana Album. She only lost Best Americana Album after being beaten by ‘In These Silent Days’ by Brandi Carlile.

In addition to winning three awards on the night, she also performed, singing a part of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Songbird’ during a tribute to Christine McVie, who died last year.

Raitt is no stranger to bringing home Grammy wins. In 2013, she took home the Best Americana Album win for ‘Slipstream.’ Before that she took home the award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for her ‘SRV Shuffle’ in 1997.

Even earlier, she won Best Pop Album for ‘Longing In Their Hearts’ in 1995, and in 1992 she took home three different awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance (female), Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Her first Grammy Award win came in 1990 when she won Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance (female), and Best Rock Vocal Performance (female) all for her ‘Nick Of Time’ album.

Raitt took home an award from the Grammy’s major four categories both in 1990 and 2023, a 33-year gap between the two major wins.
