Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me from Nowhere” trailer, cast and release date
‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere’, written and directed by Scott Cooper, charts the New Jersey-born singer-songwriter on the brink of stardom.

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, the new biopic written and directed by Scott Cooper, chronicles a pivotal point in the American singer-songwriter’s early career.
The production is largely based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska - which tells the story of how The Boss wrote, arranged and recorded the songs for his sixth studio album.
After spending practically a whole year on tour promoting The River, Springsteen returned to his ranch in Colts Neck, New Jersey to begin work on his next project in September 1981.
A prolific writer, he had already had written a handful of new songs months earlier during the E Street Band’s 140-show trek across the US, Canada and Europe. He churned out a couple of dozen more, recorded them as demos at home with the aim of taking them to the studio to finish them off with the full band.
40 years ago today, Bruce Springsteen released ‘Nebraska’ — an album of demos recorded on a 4-track recorder. Coined an “accidental masterpiece,” this introspective album was listed as one of the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone and a fan favorite by many. #Nebraska40 pic.twitter.com/edhrKCTPrn

Springsteen on songwriting
“I decided that what always took me so long in the studio was the writing,” he would recall years later. “I would get in there, and I just wouldn’t have the material written, or it wasn’t written well enough, and so I’d record for a month, get a couple of things, go home write some more, record for another month - it wasn’t very efficient.”
However, the results of those sessions recorded with the E Street Band at New York’s Power House in the Spring of 1982 lacked something - they didn’t have the same zest, the rawness as the original home recordings that Bruce made on a TEAC four-track tape recorder with just voice and guitar.

Home recordings used instead of polished studio takes
It was a selection of those home demos that were subsequently released as the Nebraska album in September 1982.
This particular period in Springsteen’s career is central to Deliver Me from Nowhere, with Jeremy Allen White starring in the lead role as the singer, then still in his early 30s and of the cusp of stardom. Matthew Anthony Pellicano plays the part of the young Springsteen in flashback scenes.
English actor Stephen Graham plays Bruce’s father Douglas, whose own struggles led to a stormy relationship with his son - right up to his death in 1998.
Gaby Hoffman plays Adele Springsteen, the singer’s mother - the rock who “held the family together”.
