Celebrities honor the late Tina Turner

A number of celebrities said their condolences in honor of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, who passed away on Wednesday.

Tras la muerte de Tina Turner, Angela Bassett, quien la interpretó en 'What's Love Got to Do with It', recuerda lo último que le dijo la cantante.

Legendary singer Tina Turner passed away at the age of 83 after a long bout of illness on Wednesday, May 24, but the impact she made with her music and her story will continue to live on.

Following the announcement of her death, confirmed by her long-time publicist Bernard Doherty, a number of celebs who knew the artist have honored her memory with heartfelt words.

In her Instagram stories, Madonna shared a picture of herself and Turner on the cover of Rolling Stones Magazine with the caption “Thank You Tina Turner!! You Paved the Way for so Many Women!”

Mick Jagger

“I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner,” wrote Rolling Stones’ frontman Mick Jagger on Instagram, which featured a series of pictures of Turner singing live on stage, including two with Jagger.

“She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.”

The two superstars performed together at the 1985 Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in London. They sang the songs, ‘State of Shock, ‘It’s Only Rock n’ Roll’, where Jagger famously ripped her skirt, and ‘We Are the World’ with Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Joel, and more.

“I always had a crush on Mick Jagger. I loved when we toured with The Rolling Stones,” Turner previously stated in an interview with The Guardian.

Priscilla Presley

Priscilla Presley, in a statement to People, recalled how much her husband, the late King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, loved Turner.

“Tina Turner was one of Elvis’ favorite performers,” she said. “When she took the stage, it was pure magic. I remember how she held an audience with an energy that was undeniably pure Tina! She has left a remarkable legacy and will be sorely missed by all.”

Angela Bassett

“How do we say farewell to a woman who owned her pain and trauma and used it as a means to help change the world?” Angela Bassett said on social media.

Bassett famously played Turner in the 1993 film ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’, based on Turner’s bestselling memoir ‘I, Tina’ released in 1986.

“Through her courage in telling her story, her commitment to stay the course in her life, no matter the sacrifice, and her determination to carve out a space in rock and roll for herself and for others who look like her, Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion, and freedom should look like.”

Bassett recalls the final words Turner said to her. “Her final words to me — for me — were ‘You never mimicked me. Instead, you reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina, and showed her to the world.’”

“Tina Turner is a gift that will always be ‘simply the best.’ Angels, sing thee to thy rest…Queen.”

Oprah Winfrey

“She is our forever goddess of rock ‘n’ roll who contained a magnitude of inner strength that grew throughout her life,” Winfrey wrote on Instagram.

“She was a role model not only for me but for the world. She encouraged a part of me I didn’t know existed.”
