Celebrities not impressed by losing Twitter’s blue checkmark

Hollywood is in an outcry over losing the little blue checkmark beside their name on their Twitter account that verifies them on social media.

Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, has put the blue checkmark behind a paywall, and many celebs are refusing to pay the $8 monthly fee. The policy went into action Thursday.

The symbol works as a verification badge so audiences will know it is the actual person or business they are following, rather than an impersonator.

Celebrities Lynda Carter, Ben Stiller, Chrissy Teigen, and LeBron James, and many more have taken to social media to protest.

Elon Musk’s new Twitter era

Musk has restructured the social media platform to incorporate a paid subscription service called Twitter Blue.

The fee grants the blue verification checkmark, as announced by Twitter on March 23.

“Starting April 1,” the platform wrote in its help center, “we’ll be winding down our legacy Verification program, and accounts that were verified under the previous criteria (active, notable, and authentic) will not retain a blue checkmark unless they are subscribed to Twitter Blue.”

However, April 1 came and went with no changes from Twitter implemented to affect the blue check.

Until this week.

“Tomorrow, 4/20,” Twitter wrote on its blue checkmark-verified account Wednesday, “we are removing legacy verified checkmarks. To remain verified on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue here [...] Organizations can sign up for Verified Organizations here.”

Celebrities unimpressed with the Twitter changes

Lynda Carter, who starred in ‘Wonder Woman’, used her superhero role to illustrate her disgruntlement, as the actress posted a Wonder Woman meme.

“No blue checkmark? Okay, we’ll settle this the old-fashioned way,” Carter wrote on Twitter.

Ciara maintained her confidence in the loss of the blue checkmark — and is not willing to comply, knowing her fans will find her either way.

“Blue check or no check… I know my fans still checkin,” she wrote on her Twitter account.

Chrissy Teigen posted “going to bed tonight with my checkmark husband, knowing it will all be over by morning.”

LeBron James chimed in too.

“Welp guess my blue ✔️ will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5,” the NBA star chirped.

“My last blue check night, loving this #Knick game,” Ben Stiller chimed in.

“Check gone but the checks still coming,” taunted The Game.
