Coachella is facing a fine of $117,000 for breaking the curfew set by the city of Indio, California, according to city officials.

Friday and Saturday’s closing acts, Bad Bunny and Calvin Harris, respectively, went over the curfew time of 1:00 a.m. PST by half an hour. Frank Ocean went over the Sunday curfew time of 12:00 a.m. PST, ending at roughly 12:25 a.m.

A breakdown of the fines

As a result of these late closers, Coachella has been given a six-figure fine, part of an agreement made in 2013 between Goldenvoice, the promoters of the Coachella Music Festival, and the city of Indio.

The agreement outlines that going five minutes over curfew will result in a fine of $20,000. Every minute after costs $1,000 per minute. Money from the fines will then go towards Indio’s General Fund, used to support public works, including the police and fire departments.

The current curfews in place are later than they were in the original agreement. Without the changes, Friday and Saturday’s curfew would have been at midnight, and 11:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Who broke the curfew?

The set curfew times didn’t seem to deter Bad Bunny on Friday, who performed a two-hour show to fans’ delight, and which included a number of guests, such as Jowell Y Randy and Ñengo Flow. Post Malone was meant to perform an acoustic version of the song ‘Yonaguni’, but the duo were met with technical difficulties.

Calvin Harris was half an hour late into his set on Saturday, coming on stage at 12:00 a.m. PST. As a result, his set also went roughly 22 minutes over curfew.

Fans reacted to Harris going over curfew on social media.

Harris even warned fans that his set might abruptly be cut off for going over the curfew.

Frank Ocean’s performance on Sunday, which began an hour late and which many fans found disappointing, was cut short because of the curfew, with Ocean telling fans: “Guys I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show.”
