Rapper Da Brat and wife Jesseca ‘Judy’ Harris-Dupart are expecting a baby.

Da Brat made the announcement in this week’s edition of People magazine, with the ‘Funkdafied’ rapper announcing she’s expecting a child at the age of 48.

“It’s been quite a journey. There’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40,” she said.

Da Brat never thought she would have kids

Da Brat and Harris-Dupart, who has three children, got married a year ago. However, Da Brat revealed she never thought she was going to have kids.

“I never thought I was going to have kids,” she said. “I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.”

However her outlook changed once she and Harris-Dupart met.

“I started looking at life so differently,” she said. “I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”

Harris-Dupart told the publication that Da Brat needed some convincing when it came to expanding their family.

“We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience,” Harris-Dupart said. “She is so nurturing.”

Da Brat opens up about miscarriage

Da Brat is now 18 weeks pregnant, with the couple using Harris-Dupart’s eggs and an anonymous sperm donor, though the process wasn’t a straightforward one.

Da Brat underwent surgery to remove fibroids and polyps before the embryo transfer, while Harris-Dupart suffered “major’ complications during her egg retrieval.

The rapper also opened up about going through a miscarriage.

“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted,” said Da Brat. “I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”

“Luckily,” she says, “we still had quite a few of her eggs left.”
