Daeron Targaryen, the unknown son of Alicent and King Viserys in ‘House of the Dragon’

Daeron Targaryen has yet to make an apperance in “House of the Dragon” but is expected to take part in the civil war to come. What do we know about the character?

The second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ is well underway, with only four episodes left for release. So far, we have been able to enjoy the multitude of details and references to George R. R. Martin’s work as they come to life on the screen. But, for those less familiar with the novel, ‘Fire and Blood’ upon which ‘House of the Dragon’ is based, it can all be overwhelming with so many characters to keep track of.

The number of names interwoven in a family tree would boggle the minds of genealogists, and it can allow us to overlook notable figures such as Daeron Targaryen, the fourth son born to King Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. The existence of Daeron is mentioned by his grandfather, Otto Hightower, in the second episode of season 2.

Daeron, though he does not live in King’s Landing, is the brother of Aegon II, Aemond, and Helaena Targaryen. He is the youngest of the four children and was born 114 years after the conquest of Westeros. His eldest brother, Aegon II, is seven years his senior, while Helaena and Aemond are only five and four years older, respectively. He is the same age as Jacaerys Velaryon, his half-brother, who is also the son of Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The story of Daeron Targaryen, the youngest son of Viserys and Alicent

Daeron Targaryen is described as intelligent, courteous, and handsome in the books. He is known for his gentle character and was the most popular among his brothers, having grown up in a different environment. At the age of twelve, he was sent to Antigua, where he served as the cupbearer and squire of Lord Hightower, becoming accustomed to following orders rather than giving them.

In ‘House of the Dragon’, he is expected to play a significant role as a character as a part of the Green’s alliance in the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war that takes place between the Targaryen following the death of King Viserys I. Despite some controversial differences from the books in the second season, Daeron Targaryen is set to appear along with his dragon, Tessarion.
