Thomas Bangalter, formerly one half of electronic duo Daft Punk, has announced a new solo album, ‘Mythologies’, which is set to arrive on April 7.

Gone is the mask that he wore during his years as part of the French-Electronic duo, and he is now baring all for the start of his solo career.

Although not quite the face-reveal many fans were expecting, Bangalter released the album art for his new project on Instagram.

Along with the album art is is an illustration of his profile, meaning it doesn’t quite have the realism of a photograph.

‘Mythologies’ is a 90-minute-long score and will be Bangalter’s first independent orchestral work.

It was initially commissioned by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj for the ballet of the same name and premiered by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine under the direction of Romain Dumas.

In a press release, it’s described as “not” drawing on electronic music, but rather “the large-scale traditional force of a symphony and, as such, it embraces the history of orchestral ballet music.”

The statement adds: “As a substantial lyrical work, Mythologies finds the co-founder of Daft Punk reinventing his approach to composition.”

When did Daft Punk split?

Life as part of Daft Punk proved successful for Bangalter as the duo achieved immense levels of success.

In 2014, the duo were invited to perform at the 2014 Grammy Awards, which is where they also won the Album of the Year award for ‘Random Access Memories’.

Daft Punk’s musical career was memorable, but it came to an abrupt end in 2021, when the duo split up and went their separate ways.

After close to three decades of making music together, the duo released a video on YouTube entitled ‘Epilogue’ to announce the official end of their collaboration.

Having been responsible for some of the underground music scene’s biggest dance hits, the pair refused to explain why the split occurred and whether or not there had been a creative disagreement.

‘Random Access Memories’ was the last full album that the group released, which came way back in 2013.
