Did Harry Styles spit at Chris Pine? The actor reveals what really happened
Chris Pine finally reveals what really happened when Harry Styles allegedly spit at him.
During the 2022 Venice International Film Festival in September, the cast of the Olivia Wilde-directed film ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ sat to watch the film’s premiere when it appeared that Harry Styles spat at his co-star, Chris Pine.
Theories on a supposed drama between the two took off, with Styles and Wilde coming out to deny that any spitting happened. Now Chris Pine has finally come to set the record straight, saying that nothing happened.
Spit did not happen
“He didn’t spit on me. I think what he said is he leaned down and I think he said, ‘It’s just words isn’t it?’” The actor said in an Esquire TikTok Interview on Wednesday.
According to the ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ actor, Styles was referring to an inside joke between the two, who had been doing interview after interview all day.
“Sometimes when you’re doing these press things, your brain goes befuddled and you know you start speaking gibberish and we had a joke, ‘It’s just words,’” Pine explained.
A day after the incident, Styles was at Madison Square Garden during his ‘Love On Tour’ when he addressed the audience.
“It’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful to be back in New York. I just popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine,” the singer joked to a cheering crowd.
A rep for Pine said in a statement to People: “Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine.
“There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”
What actually happened?
In the original viral clip, Pine had already taken his seat in the audience and was clapping, but as Styles approached to take his seat, he leaned over his co-star for a brief second, causing Pine to pause mid-clap, and look down at his lap, before Styles sat down.
Pine then appeared to laugh afterward.
Some people claim that they can see Styles puckering his lips at the same time Pine looks at his lap, but according to Pine, the ‘As It Was’ singer was just telling him an inside joke.
