Everything you need to know about the 2024 Oscars

Glamour and glitz are very much the order of the day with the iconic red carpet offering the perfect platform for Hollywood’s finest to show off their latest glad-rags and finery.

Technically, there is a dress code for the Oscars with men expected to sport a white tie, which is the most formal type of attire and the invitation requests floor-length evening gowns for women and tailcoats along with white bowties and wingtip collars for men.

Despite this being the longstanding code, very few of the Hollywood A-listers adhere to the requirements with the ceremony very much a fashionista free-for-all.

Edith Head’s footsteps

Edith Head was nominated for an Oscar 19 years in a row for the Costume Design category, she won eight awards between 1948-1966.

An institution at the award ceremony, the academy invited her to serve as a fashion consultant for the ceremony and so committed was Head in maintaining grace and style at the event, she listed her office phone number and her home phone number.

Inevitably the 2024 ceremony will undoubtedly be full of memorable fashion moments, with many sticking to the dress code, whilst others using the event to showcase avant-garde fashion ensembles.
