Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has sparked controversy by sharing fake images created by artificial intelligence (AI) that suggest Taylor Swift and her fans support his candidacy.

In the manipulated images, posted via the Truth Social platform via Trump’s own account, Taylor Swift fans can be seen wearing t-shirts that read ‘Swifties for Trump’. The Republican also shared a postcard of Taylor Swift herself dressed as Uncle Sam with the message “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.” Upon posting the images, Trump responded with a resounding “I do!”

Could Swift sue Trump for using her image?

According to Jessica Silbey, a law professor at Boston University, Taylor Swift could sue Donald Trump for breaching rights that allows her to control the use of her name and image.

The legal expert also states says that Swift could also consider a defamation suit if Trump’s post causes damage to her reputation. However, Silbey explains to Billboard that the best way to respond would be “with political activism rather than legal action.”

Swift camp reacts to Trump’s images

Once the images went viral, a source close to the artist who is poised to play in London on the last night of her Era’s Tour in Europe, revealed to the Daily Mail that Taylor Swift has no intention of supporting Donald Trump’s candidacy, as she believes the Republican has simply “lost control.”

If Taylor didn’t support him last time, she’s not going to support him now,” the insider told the DailyMail.“It’s clear he’s lost control in more ways than one,” he concluded.

The singer-songwriter was a supporter of the Democratic candidacy in the previous US election race publishing a series of tweets condemning the Republican candidate stating in one post: “in November, we will vote you out Donald Trump”.
