Drake celebrates mom’s 75th birthday with touching Instagram post
The rapper celebrated his mom’s diamond jubilee alongside family and friends, as well as son Adonis.
Drake celebrated his mother Sandi Graham’s 75th birthday over the weekend, sharing several photos from the event on his Instagram account.
The 36-year-old made sure to capture the moment at what appeared to be a formal dinner party. Along with posting pictures from the event, Drake also wrote a heartfelt message.
“75 Years,” Drake wrote. “Thank you mama for the 9 months you carried me through…all the pain and suffering. No one knows the pressure you bear just only you…give you all my love,” he wrote, before signing off as “Kalonji.”
The caption is a reference to Sizzla Kalonji’s ‘Thank U Mamma’, which was released in 2002 and appeared on his album, ‘Da Real Thing’. The song heaps praise on moms for their strength and support.
The photos show Drake’s five-year-old son Adonis was also in attendance, wearing a grey suit just like his dad. In one of the pictures he can be seen blowing out the candles with grandma, and in another he is throwing up peace signs alongside Drake.
Another features him doing the same pose with Sandi and Drake’s father, Dennis Graham.
Drake also uploaded a few clips from the event to his Instagram stories, including one where he called Sandi his “twin” while displaying a big smile. Another showed him holding Adonis tight and giving a speech to those in attendance.
Drake saluted his mother in New York
Drake was recently in New York for two shows at the Apollo Theater. During the second performance he saluted his mother, calling her his biggest fan.
The rapper delighted fans by taking them on a trip through his studio albums and performing 42 different songs. One set design emulated his childhood bedroom in Sandi’s basement.
During that set Drake played ‘Over My Dead Body’ from his 2011 album ‘Take Care’ while donning a cardigan.
“The fact that I can still make music, and the fact that you still care,” Drake said toward the end of the show. “The fact that we can still, after all these years, from [Degrassi’s] Jimmy Brooks til now, just relate to each other somehow.”
“I’ll be there for you,” he concluded. “In your darkest moments and your happiest moments, I’ll be there for you.”“
