Edward Norton and Natalie Portman don’t hold back on ICE shootings: “What’s going on in our country right now is absolutely horrific”
The actor called for “a national, general economic strike until this is over”. Portman blasted the current situation as “absolutely horrific”.
A number of Hollywood stars have expressed their opinions about the worrying situation in Minnesota, after two members of the public were shot and killed by federal agents. Alex Pretti became the latest victim on Saturday - the second fatality in just three weeks. The shooting—an incident already under intense scrutiny—has fueled new questions and sparked fresh waves of public outrage.
Edward Norton and Natalie Portman are the latest to speak out against the ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the city, which has descended into chaos and seems to be getting worse by the day.
Norton calls for general strike
“These are not normal times and we have extra judicial assaults on Americans and humans going on, on a daily basis now and it’s not okay,” Norton said. “Even though all people have to put one foot in front of the other and deal with the demands of the day, we cannot act like this is not happening. And I think what they’re doing in Minnesota with the strike needs to expand. I think we should be talking about a national, general, economic strike until this is over and stopped”.
At the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Natalie Portman was among those who addressed the controversy head‑on. The actress slammed the agency’s actions as “the worst of humanity” while wearing her own “ICE Out” and and “Be Good” pins.
“What’s going on in this country right now is absolutely horrific," Portman told Deadline. “What the federal government, Trump’s government, Kristi Noem, ICE – what they’re doing is really the worst of the worst of humanity. And we also have the best of the best of humanity in the way people are showing up for each other - in community and Americans coming out to support each other and protect each other, and fight against injustice”.
