Elizabeth Olsen says ‘Doctor Strange 2’ writers hadn’t seen ‘WandaVision’

According to Olsen, the writers on ‘Doctor Strange 2′ weren’t able to watch WandaVision before writing the script.

‘WandaVision’ is a nine episode mini-series that focuses on Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and her struggles with grief and loss, which led to an emotional climax.

The next time fans see the character is in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ which canonically takes place shortly after ‘WandaVision’.

However, in this film, Wanda approaches her loss and grief with a much more violent perspective. While this can be attributed to the effects of the Darkhold, many were quick to point out that the sudden change felt inconsistent and jarring.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Olsen stated that the writers on the movie weren’t able to watch ‘WandaVision’ as it had not been released at the time of writing ‘Doctor Strange 2′.

“It’s a similar arc in ‘Multiverse of Madness’ that it is in ‘WandaVision’,” Olsen explained. “There could be parallel stories being told there about dealing with grief and loss.

“Well, I proposed that to the writers of ‘Multiverse of Madness’. I said, ‘Do you know what we’re doing in ‘WandaVision’? Have you seen it?’ And no they had not seen it because it wasn’t finished yet.

“So I had to try and, I don’t know, play it differently, right? I had to attack the same themes in order for it to be interesting for me, I think, and potentially for the audience, I just had to come at it from a different point of view, so that it wasn’t repetitive.”

Olsen doesn’t like to do her own stunts

While many actors love training and performing their own stunts, Olsen isn’t one of them. When speaking to Stephen Colbert on ‘The Late Show’, the 34-year-old actress called it “ridiculous” to perform her own stunts when a professional could do a much better job.

“We’ve had so much technology, growth through these movies, and they just chose to really use me,” she said, referring to her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
